Making the Switch from Free File Transfer Tools to MOVEit Transfer

In today’s evolving workplace environment, companies like yours are more vulnerable than ever.

Reports of cyberattacks, phishing, DDoS attacks, and more have become all too common on IT and security blogs (like Defrag This). And, free file transfer tools like DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and others can leave your organization susceptible to hackers, unrestricted access, file tampering, and shadow IT

So let’s say you’re looking for a way to send a vendor an excel sheet, or maybe you’re sending back a fully executed legal document – regardless, sending files using an ad-hoc file sharing tool like DropBox comes to mind as it’s free and easy to use. Just because it is user friendly and only requires 4 form fields and a checkbox, is it the best solution in a world where even innocuous actions like transferring attachments via email can compromise sensitive data just like that?

Now, I’m not saying DropBox is a bad tool because it’s saved me on numerous occasions when a SharePoint link doesn’t work, or an attachment is too big for an email; we’ve all been there. DropBox has its place, but, what if I told you there are other options out there specifically ones built for businesses to support the security between person-to-person, person-to-system or system-to-system transfers?

A Managed File Transfers (MFT) solution allows you to consolidate all file transfer activity to one system to ensure better management control over core business processes. An MFT solution like MOVEit Transfer can help you achieve security, centralized access controls, file encryption, activity tracking needed to ensure operational reliability and compliance, internal governance and regulatory requirements like PCI, HIPAA, and GDPR.

Organizations like mine rely on Office 365 and OneDrive, however, due to a ‘recent’ acquisition of Ipswitch and their suite of products, including MOVEit Transfer, and it only took a year, but I made the move to the MFT solution and have not looked back since. My day to day role includes working with external vendors, agencies, and internal employees where the need to send (and receive) large videos, zip files, excel sheets, .jpgs, .pngs, the list goes on. The transition has been seamless. I’ve been able to easily send large and small files to vendors who’ve never used MOVEit Transfer, and they can receive them easily and return files even easier – even without my explaining how to use the tool.

The MOVEit Transfer interface resembles your typical email client like Microsoft Outlook complete with easy drag-and-drop functionality allowing you to easily attach files. You can also expire your delivery, set a restriction to the number of downloads, and more!

An MFT solution like MOVEit Transfer can offer you:

  • Complete visibility and control over all file transfers
  • Secure access control via Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Scalability and continuation of transfers after failures
  • Compliance with data privacy laws and regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI
  • Consolidation of multiple FTP servers into one MFT server
  • Secure Folder Sharing for simplified collaboration and file sharing without security risks
  • REST API support for flexible integration with third-party applications
  • Internationalization with the ability to transfer files in any language

While free tools are useful and have their place in your business, protecting your sensitive data can help you save hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines caused by a data breach or DDoS attack.  Don’t let that be you, try MOVEit Transfer today!
